BBC iPlayer reconciles the Christmas TV quarrels

A good number of the families in the UK could avoid the fights over the remote control of TV by making use of the BBC iPlayer and the on demand catch up services.

Erik Huggers, who is the director of future media and technology at the BBC, quoted: “The BBC iPlayer has gone from strength to strength last year, with tens of millions of views each month.”

The service of internet catch-up is now available on over twenty different devices, at the same time it is available on Digital TV services like Virgin Media, gaming consoles as the Wii and the mobile phones. It gets around 5 million unique viewers on an average every week.

“These figures show people are making the most of the choice they now have,” said Huggers, “whether it’s watching EastEnders on your PC during your lunch break, listening to Desert Island Discs on the bus or watching Mock The Week in bed.

The data available from the BBC revealed as to how individuals love to watch the iPlayer on their handsets which results in a great peak in traffic after 9pm, and on Saturday and Sunday mornings, the data further revealed that the consumer enjoy watching their favourite programmes from BBC in bed.

Huggers adds further that the BBC is planning to increase the total availability of the BBC iPlayer on the newer platforms and gadgets in the year 2010.
