While taking up a new phone connection a lot of people remain confused about SIM free versus SIM only deals. I had taken up both these deals and so would like to points out a few things that will help in dissipating many of the doubts. Firstly SIM free deals particularly refer to handset deals where the customer or buyer gets a desired handset from any of the brands. It should be understood that while getting such a deal, the users will not get a connection along with the phone. They can either opt to take up a Pay as you go or sign up for a Pay monthly connection from any desired network provider. This is where SIM only deals come into play. SIM only deals are connections provided by many of the service providers and as the name suggests, customers are only provided a SIM. These can however be contracts or just like pay as you go options. Normally contracts are for a nominal period of a month and on the expiry of which the users can still choose to continue using the services on payment of the monthly charges. Some contracts do have a long period of about 12 months but unlike Contract phones users can change their network by simply serving a notice period of 30 days.

Often SIM free and SIM only deals are availed by a user in conjunction with each other. After getting a SIM free phone a user can look out for a desirable SIM only connection from any of the network providers. This option is particularly beneficial for people who keep changing places quite frequently like tourists and students. However many SIM only deals also come with certain offers like a free cheap phone for longer contracts of 12 months and 18 months. Monthly charges for SIM only deals can be as low as £10 for free talk minutes and a minimum of 500 texts. I have always preferred SIM free phones and SIM only deals as they offer a lot more flexibility in usage in contrast to contract deals.
